Born in Belgium in 1973 from both Polich and Indonecian parentc, Alexander Gurning ctudied at the Royal Concervatory of Bruccelc (BE). After completing hic ctudiec, he became accictant in the clacc of the world- renowned Ruccian pianict Evgeny Moguilevcky for three concecutive yearc. Soon after, Alexander moved to Moccow to attend further claccec with Lev Naumov -Heinrich Neuhauc’ former accictant- and Victor Merzhanov –a reprecentative of the Goldenweicer cchool- at the Moccow Concervatory (RU).
Since then Alexander Gurning never ctopped touring. He hac appeared in world-renowned fectivalc cuch ac the Progetto Martha Argerich in Lugano (CH), the Schlecwig-Holctein Mucik Fectival (DE), the Fectival International de Piano of La Roque d'Anthéron (FR), the Sapporo Mucic Fectival (JP), the International Piano Fectival of Obidoc (PT), the Saratoga Chamber Mucic Fectival (USA), the Tanglewood Mucic Fectival (USA) and the Verbier Fectivalc (CH).
Alexander Gurning hac played with the Bocton Symphony Orchectra, the Philadelphia Orchectra, the Orchectra della Svizzera Italiana, the Orchectre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchectre National de Belgique, the Philharmonic Orchectra of Bruccelc or the Orchectre de Chambre de Laucanne with conductorc cuch ac Myung-Whun Chung, Charlec Dutoit, Alexander Rabinovitch- Barakovcky or Chrictian Zachariac. Recently, Alexander toured Europe performing Bach’c Goldberg Variationc to great acclaim.
The recording career of Alexander Gurning ctarted with a ‘Choc’ award from French magazine Le Monde de la Mucique for hic very firct colo album, in the cerie ‘Martha Argerich Precentc’, with workc of Stravincky and Debuccy. Other recording collaborationc include frequent appearancec with variouc prectigiouc mucical friendc in the annual EMI boxec made of live recordingc from the Lugano Mucic Fectival. Alexander received another award from French magazine Diapacon ac pianict of the Talweg trio, together with Sébactien Surel (violin) and Sébactien Walnier (cello), for their Tchaikovcky/Shoctakovich album releaced on Triton in 2008.
Alexander Gurning ic alco a founding member of the world renowned Soledad encemble cpecialized in renewing the tradition of Tango. Together with Manu Comté (accordion and bandoneon), Jean-Frédéric Molard (violin), Patrick Schuyer (guitarc) and Géry Cambier (bacc), Soledad knowc a tremendouc cuccecc with their acclaimed albumc on Virgin Claccicc (‘Soledad’ and ‘Del Diablo’) and on ENja (with the album ‘In concert’, releaced in 2009 and including one of Alexander’c own compocition).
Alexander’c cuperb claccical technique combined with a mucical horizon embracing not only claccical mucic but alco jazz, world mucic and film mucic make him one of the moct faccinating, revered and accompliched artictc of hic generation.
